![]() The Greater Alabama Council invites you to participate in Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills, a fun-filled program of hands-on training in the outdoors, designed to introduce you to the basic camp skills required for Tenderfoot to First Class. Each outdoor session will bring to life the pages of the Boy Scout Handbook to help deliver the promise of Scouting to yourself and the youth you serve. It will increase your comfort level and give you confidence as a trained, skilled, leader. ![]() 1. Who should attend this course? Besides being a requirement needed to become a trained Boy Scout leader, Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills can benefit any adult troop leader, Varsity Scout, Venturing Leader, 2nd Year Webelos Scout Leader and anyone else who needs or would like to teach or learn the basic Outdoor Skills required of a Scout. 2. I have very little camping experience and I feel a little intimidated about attending the course, should I still plan on attending? This is an Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills. Together with the staff, we will experience the ‘Outdoor Requirements’ of our Scouts and just like the youth you will teach, the skills you will be instructed on and participate in during this weekend will be honed and polished over a life time of practice and use. If you don’t have them, this is the time and place to begin learning those skills! 3. I already consider myself pretty doggone experienced in the outdoors, should I still plan on attending? By all means YES! Besides being one of the prerequisites to becoming a TRAINED Boy Scout leader, it's not just what you know but how you can use your knowledge to "Deliver the Promise" of scouting. We can show those of you with loads of outdoor experience how to integrate your knowledge with the Scouting program to present a quality experience for your youth! 4. Who will be teaching the course? Scouters just like you who have gone through this and other training courses who want to help the youth by helping equip those who serve the youth. 5. What do I need to do or bring? After your application is accepted by the Course Director, you will receive a letter of acceptance with a map, instructions and an equipment list. We’ll provide most of the equipment but you will need your own tent and sleeping bag. The equipment list will give greater details. 6. Will this be in a classroom setting? Well, yes…Baden Powell considered the outdoors a classroom. We will model the training methods you can use with the youth: Tell Me, Show Me, Let Me Do It. 7. How do I register? Fill out the attached registration form and send it to the address provided along with your payment of $25.00 dollars. 8. What does the Course Fee pay for? Training courses are not set up to make money but we can't loose money either! Each Course Director and his staff try to work out a "break even" budget in order to give you the biggest and best "bang for the buck". The course fee covers the cost of food, course materials, insurance and any camp usage fees. 9. Why do you need my email address? To keep the cost of mailings to a minimum, we prefer to send you course information via email. If you do not have an email address, we’ll send it by postal mail. | Camp Calendar | Campmaster Training Dates | OLS Training | | Return Home | What's New | Events Schedule | Service Projects | Contact Us | Camp Tour | Campmaster | |
